The Office of Sustainability at Southern Connecticut State University connects students, faculty, and staff with the information, people, and tools they need to make our campus more sustainable. We are committed to engaging everyone to make healthy and environmentally conscious decisions in all aspects of campus life.
We welcome ideas and participation by the entire campus community and provide a wide range of opportunities to participate including: Campus Conservation Nationals, Recyclemania, the Campus Community Garden, Plant It Forward, the SCSU Food Recovery Network, Compost Happens!, Green Room Certification, presentations by guest speakers, and much more. The Office of Sustainability also tracks progress toward meeting greenhouse gas and waste reduction goals of the President's Climate Commitment. Here is a copy of our newly revised Climate Commitment, that will now address climate resiliency!
From building a highly efficient Campus Energy Center, to encouraging students to plant an organic campus vegetable garden, to creating an Environmental Studies minor for any undergraduate major, Southern seeks to develop a more balanced relationship with the environment.
The Office of Sustainability will now have a permanent food donation box for non-perishable food outside our office located in the Facilities Operations Building. The food will be donated weekly to the Connecticut Food Bank!
