Admission Requirements

Candidates seeking admission are expected to have a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field with a grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0 (out of 4.0).  Candidates who do not meet the GPA requirement must seek advisement from the Graduate Program Coordinator to determine if conditional acceptance is possible.

Prerequisites

Students with a bachelor's degree in majors other than Computer Science or a computer-related field must take the following prerequisite courses:

  • CSC 501: Programming for Data Science (3 credits)
  • CSC 503: Computer Systems and Networking (3 credits)

The prerequisite courses are scheduled to be taken in a sequence within a single semester.

Computer Science Requirements

No more than 9 credits of graduate-level Computer Science-related courses may be transferred from other institutions.  Once the university has a completed application file with all required documentation,  the Graduate Coordinator will arrange a personal interview with the applicant.

International Students

If you are an international student, please visit the School of Graduate Studies website for requirements and check out this FAQ which addresses commonly asked questions about Connecticut residency requirements for international students.

After Admission Requirements Are Satisfied

All students who satisfy the admission requirements of the program must draft a program of study in consultation with the Graduate Coordinator of the department. The planned program will outline all courses that must be completed before the master's degree is conferred. Students will select the concentration area of their interest, elective courses, and a thesis or comprehensive examination with scholarly paper option. Upon final approval of the application and planned program by the Dean of Graduate Studies, applicants will receive a letter of acceptance and a copy of the planned program verifying their status as a matriculated graduate student.
