Summer/August 2010 Graduation Deadline Extension
February 1st was the last day for undergraduates to apply for Summer/August 2010 graduation. We have received so few applications, that we are extending this date to February 19th. The graduate student deadline remains April 9th.
The Hartford Financial Services Group Internship Info Session
Representatives of the Hartford Financial Services Group will be visiting Dr. DaPonte's CSC 400 class on Wednesday October 27 from 9:10 to 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held in MO 113. All upper level CS students are invited to attend. A description of the internship program is available under employment opportunities which can be found on the CS department home page.
New first-time freshmen, their parents, and transfer students are invited to come to orientation in the coming months. More details.
CS Degree Starting Salaries Up 15% Since Bust
Flying in the face of suggestions that computer science is not a viable career path, graduates saw sizable starting salary increases in 2007.
Due only partly to the damage done by the dot-com bust and media hype around outsourcing, there is a widespread conception that IT is not a viable career path.
Perpetuated further by well-intended guidance counselors, parents and even IT professionals who do not feel safe sending their technically inclined children down their same career path, most come to the conclusion that computer science graduates have a difficult time finding work. Read More
