World Languages and Literatures
The Department of World Languages and Literatures offers several undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduates can major or minor in Spanish, French, Italian, or German. The department also offers a full range of courses in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Latin. We also encourage all students, especially language majors and minors, to study abroad to enhance their language skills and expand their college experience.
We offer a variety of options for students interested in teaching a foreign language (FLT), including initial FLT certification, a cross-endorsement program for certification in FLT, a graduate FLT certification program for students holding bachelor's degrees, and an FLT certification program for individuals currently employed in Connecticut with a Durational Shortage Application Permit (DSAPs).
We also offer a series of programs in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Bilingual Education (BE), including a master's of science degree and cross-endorsement certification.
