Welcome to the Accounting Department
A Message from Dr. Janet Phillips
Chairman, Accounting Department :
The accounting concentration prepares our graduates for rewarding and stimulating accounting careers in a variety of challenging settings including public accounting, private industry, governmental and not-for-profit institutions. Graduates of our program may become certified public accountants, certified management accountants, controllers, internal auditors and financial analysts and managers.
Our accounting students are prepared in small classroom settings by a department of highly qualified faculty with doctoral degrees and real life accounting experience performing research published in scholarly journals. Classes are offered in both the day and evening to accommodate traditional students as well as those students with full time positions. Accounting internship opportunities are offered as well as unique accounting electives such as Fraud and Forensic Accounting and Not-for-profit and Governmental Accounting. Students are encouraged to participate in our Accounting Society to gain valuable career advice by networking with an interesting array of accounting professionals.
Our program is distinct in offering a course dedicated to International Accounting as well as the opportunity to participate in an annual international accounting conference hosted in various European countries with students from leading universities throughout Europe.
Students graduating with the concentration in Accounting from SCSU are qualified to sit for the CPA exam in Connecticut. In order to meet the 150-hour education requirement to be licensed in Connecticut, students may choose to pursue the Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting in the University’s Graduate School of Business. Eligible students are allowed to take up to two MBA courses while completing their undergraduate program.
So I challenge you to learn more about the accounting concentration at SCSU by exploring the remainder of our web page. Please contact me if you have any questions.
