Cynthia McDaniels, Professor


Cynthia McDaniels, Ph.D., is a Professor of Education Educational Foundations and Leadership at Southern Connecticut State University. She teaches graduate courses in social foundations, leadership theory, curriculum development and supervises interns in leadership.

 Professor McDaniels earned her doctorate in Educational Foundations and Higher Educational Administration/Supervision from the University of Maryland, College Park. She received her Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction and Bachelor's degree in history from the University ofCalifornia, Berkeley. She has also completed post doctoral studies in Qualitative Research, Clinical Supervision and Character Education.

 Dr. McDaniels has held a number of leadership positions at SCSU. She was the Director of Programs and Special Projects in the School of Education. In that role, she founded the SCSU Professional Development Network that included many partnerships between SCSU and school districts. She also was a founding member of the Center for Community and School Action Research (CCSAR).and worked with the Director to establish and administer the center. She was SCSU's representative on the State Department of Higher Education's many committees; including assessment, collaborative, interdisciplinary, deans, and others that developed policy for teacher education programs state wide. Her other responsibilities included budget oversight, Director of the Hillhouse Teacher Prep Program, prepared accreditation reports and policy papers. She also served on the board of directors at two charter schools.  Cynthia McDaniels was also the Coordinator of the Educational Foundations Sixth Year Program and developed the first online  graduate program in educational foundations. She also established a satellite program to service students in the shoreline and neighboring states.

 Cynthia has received numerous grants and presented scores of her research papers at international, national and local forums.

 Throughout her career, Cynthia has held leadership positions overseas and in the United States. She served as a curriculum and evaluation consultant for international and national agencies in Afrrica and the United States. She has taught and conducted research abroad and in the United States.Her reports and writings have been presented and published. She was an associate professor at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) and California State University, St. Mary's College (CA) and also taught at Quinnipiac University and the  University of New Haven.
