The discipline of public health addresses individual well-being as a function of its direct concern for aggregate health status. The public health professional can have a major impact on health status through the employment of intervention strategies at various levels of prevention used to bring about planned change in each of these areas. To enhance the probability of success in their work, public health professionals should have essential disciplinary skills of comprehension, analysis, and practice. The Department of Public Health has a responsibility to structure its program and create an overall learning experience in which requisite conceptual base and skills can be developed.
