Accreditation and Assessment

The BSW program and the MSW program are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The purpose of CSWE accreditation is “to ensure a well-educated social work profession equipped to promote health, well-being, and justice for all people in a diverse society.” The 2022 CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) define social work competencies that are demonstrated by BSW graduates in generalist practice and by MSW graduates in specialist practice:

  1. Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior
  2. Advance human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice
  3. Engage Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) in practice
  4. Engage in practice-informed research and research-informed practice
  5. Engage in policy practice
  6. Engage with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities
  7. Assess individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities
  8. Intervene with individuals, families, groups, organization, and communities
  9. Evaluate practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities

The Department of Social Work evaluates the BSW and MSW programs by collecting data on graduates’ performance of each competency as measured through academic coursework and practicum education.  Assessment data is provided in the links below:
