The John J. Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in honor of John J. Smith by his son John J. Smith, Jr. This fund will be used to assist students majoring in the School of Business at Southern Connecticut State University.

  1. The student(s) must be a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student as defined by the university.

  2. The student(s) must be majoring in a program within the School of Business.

  3. The student(s) must demonstrate financial need.

  4. The student(s) must be of high academic standing.

  5. Once the endowed fund reaches $25,000, the allocated interest on the principal will be awarded annually and the original principal or subsequent gifts to the principal will never be awarded.

  6. The scholarship award will be made directly to the Southern Connecticut State University Business Office and applied to the recipient's outstanding bill.

  7. The Scholarship Committee of the Southern Connecticut State University Alumni Association will select the student recipient(s).

  8. The conditions of the John J. Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund may be amended at any time by John J. Smith, Jr. with the approval of the Board of Directors of the Southern Connecticut State University Foundation.

  9. In the event that the programs of the School of Business are eliminated at the University, the SCSU Foundation Board of Directors will determine the allocation of all remaining funds in the John J. Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund.
