Crowdfunding Guidelines       Crowdfunding FAQs

What is Crowdfunding?

Thank you for your interest in strengthening support for Southern and increasing engagement with university community members.  Crowdfunding is a way of raising funds through the collective effort of friends, family, alumni, and individual donors. This approach taps into the collective efforts of a large pool of individuals—primarily online via social media—and leverages their networks for greater reach and exposure.

The crowdfunding process is one that can excite those who already advocate and support Southern.  It can also bring new friends, alumni, and others into the rewarding experience of unlocking new potential through heightened awareness and increased philanthropic participation.

As a member of the internal Southern community, your interest in utilizing SCSU’s online crowdfunding platform is an expression of your deep dedication and creative vision.  Depending on your project, area of interest, or important Southern cause, the team within the Division of Institutional Advancement looks forward to collaborating with you.

In order to allow IA to best serve the University and in order to consider the possibility of utilizing SCSU’s online crowdfunding platform, please complete the application below.  Your application will be reviewed by the SCSU Crowdfunding Committee for approval.  Individual Crowdfunding projects will run for approximately one month (exceptions may apply).

All applicants should review and understand the crowdfunding guidelines before applying.  Completing this application attests to your understanding of the guidelines and agreement.  Questions about the guidelines or other aspects of Southern’s crowdfunding system should be addressed to IA or directly to the SCSU Crowdfunding Committee.

Please Note:

  • The individual that fills out this form will be considered the Lead Crowdfunding Ambassador for this project unless otherwise noted.

  • The Crowdfunding Committee will meet at the beginning of each month to determine which requests can be supported. If you do not hear back by the 10th of the month following your application, please reach out to Kaitlin Ingerick for an update regarding the decision regarding your request.

  • Please note that donors who choose to support the project will be making their gift to SCSU Foundation Inc., a non-profit 501-c-3 organization supporting the financial management and oversight of philanthropic support provided to advance Southern Connecticut State University. Donor contact information and history of their engagement will be maintained by the Foundation and the Division of Institutional Advancement. As the project lead for a crowdfunding campaign, publicly available information will be provided. Restrictions to donor information do apply. For more information about policies of the SCSU Foundation, please contact the Foundation business manager.
