Nationally Accredited Programs
The College of Education represents the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) at Southern Connecticut State University. The College of Education is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The EPP consists of 58 programs at the initial and advanced levels and are run by Departments within the College of Education, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the College of Health & Human Services. The programs offered within the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies are 2 (of those 58) programs within the EPP at the advanced level.
Nationally Recognized Programs
Our programs are nationally recognized by the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) and Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC).
- Sixth-Year Certificate (SYC) Program with Certification (092) – received “Full Recognition” by ELCC/NELP (until 2025)
- Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Program – received “Full Recognition” by ELCC/NELP (until 2025)
Our Students are Leaders in Connecticut
Graduates of both our Sixth-Year Certificate Program (with 092 Intermediate Administrator Certification) and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Program (with 092 Intermediate Administrator Certification) serve Connecticut Schools in every leadership role. The 092 Certification through the State of Connecticut certifies an individual to hold leadership roles in Connecticut, including building leadership positions and most district leadership positions*.
Our Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Program opens doors to any position that requires or prefers a terminal degree. Graduates of our doctoral program guide educational policy in the state, teach at colleges and universities, as well as lead other education interested agencies and organizations.
* Through the process of reciprocity, 092 certificate holders in the state of Connecticut may be eligible for equivalent licensure in other U.S. states.
