Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship/creative activity.  Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach.

The Department of Special Education is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin fall 2019.  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching special education certification courses and courses in the M.S. concentration of Assistive Technology (AT). Faculty are assigned a 12-credit hour load each semester. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are expected to engage in scholarship/creative activity, service to the department and University, and student advising.

Required Qualifications:

Earned doctorate or ABD in Special Education or related area, three years of full-time teaching experience or equivalent experience with students with disabilities, expertise in Assistive Technology to support individuals with disabilities, and ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity. If ABD, candidate must have earned doctorate by the end of the first year of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Developing and/or demonstrated record of scholarship/creative activity, excellent written and oral communication skills, knowledge of UDL, demonstrated effectiveness in serving diverse student populations, demonstrated effectiveness in leadership roles, university teaching experience, and experience with Assistive Technology and students with learning disabilities.
