The Department of the Environment, Geography, and Marine Sciences (EGMS) invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in Socio-Ecological Systems/ Sustainability at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in the First Year Experience Program and develop a research program that fosters faculty-student collaboration and community engagement. The department offers the following: a newly-launched B.S. in Environmental Systems and Sustainability; B.A. and B.S. degrees in Geography, including a B.S. in Geography with teacher-certification (7-12); an M.S. in Environmental Education; and undergraduate concentrations in Marine Studies and in Environmental Studies. Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to teach courses in their area of expertise and develop an active research program that provides opportunities for students. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service. Candidates must be committed to teaching within a vibrant and demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment. Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct research/creative activity in their area of expertise. Creative activities include mentoring student research leading to publication of theses, publishing articles in academic and professional journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related field by the time of appointment with a specialization in environmental geography/sustainability. Candidates must also provide evidence of their ability to engage in meaningful research activity and evidence of ability to teach in their area of expertise.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching courses in geography at the university level; expertise in coastal/estuarine and/or marine environments; experience securing external funding.
