The Theatre Department at Southern Connecticut State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in Lighting and Set Design at the Assistant Professor level. The Theatre Department offers the B.A. degree.
Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
This position will design lights and sets for three departmental shows per academic year. The successful candidate will teach courses in design and various general theatre courses for majors and non-majors as needed; and contribute to the ongoing development of departmental curricula. In addition, this position will have the opportunity to mentor and advise students on independent projects and oversee student designers. Candidates must be committed to teaching within a vibrant and demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment. Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct research/creative activity in their area of expertise. Creative activities include mentoring student research leading to publication of theses, publishing articles in academic and professional journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.
By the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have received an M.F.A. with emphasis in Lighting and/or Set Design or an M.A. or Ph.D. with the equivalent professional design experience.
Highly-qualified candidates will have experience teaching and designing at the university level, have an active professional career at the national or regional level, and be a multi-faceted theatre artist. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to teach Introduction to Theatre, Principles of Design, Lighting, Scene Painting, and/or Drawing and Drafting.
