Assistant Director of Academic and Career Advising

Southern Connecticut State University seeks applications for (5) Assistant Director of Academic and Career Advising positions to support the following areas:

 •   Transfer student advising (1 position)

 •   First and second- year advising (1 position)

•   School/programs based advising for Nursing, Business and Liberal Studies (3 positions)

Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Academic and Career Advising and in consultation with various cross-divisional offices, the Assistant Director provides services and support to assist students in the areas of academic planning and advising, the development of academic and career paths through individual counseling and group activities on self-assessment, major selection, career exploration, experiential learning opportunities, professional development workshops, and job search strategies. The Assistant Director works collaboratively to coordinate services and appropriately support students from recruitment through degree completion.


 Bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in higher education or related field required. Demonstrated skill and ability to work effectively with student populations and University personnel is required.

Preferred qualifications include previous experience supporting student success, providing educational and personal support to students, responding to student concerns and behaviors, providing academic and career advising, working with faculty advisors, and participation in campus life programming. Demonstrated ability to grasp knowledge of and communicate information about all academic programs offered by the University and demonstrated commitment to student success are preferred. Successful experience supporting first- and second-year student populations and transfer students is a plus.
