Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

Workload is 12 credits per semester, comprising some combination of teaching and administrative duties. In addition, all department members share student advising and committee assignments.  All faculty members are expected to be active in their fields.

The English department at Southern has a strong composition program, with five full-time compositionists, a variety of teaching approaches, and a continuously evolving curriculum. The successful candidate must be able to teach a range of courses, including first-year composition, intermediate (200-level) composition, a required (300-level) rhetoric course for English majors, and graduate courses in the field for our MA, MS, and MFA students.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in English or Rhetoric/Composition by time of appointment and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching first-year composition.

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in either writing assessment or writing program administration highly desired.  Preference will be given to candidates who speak to their experience teaching reading and writing to the wide range of students at a regional comprehensive university or similar institution.
