Brief description of duties/responsibilities:

The Department of Special Education and Reading seeks applicants for a tenure track position in the Graduate Reading Program. Responsibilities include: Teach graduate level courses in Reading/Language Arts; advise students; provide service to the department and university; and engage in research and scholarship.

Required qualifications:

1) Earned doctorate or ABD in reading or closely related field. If ABD, candidate must have earned doctorate by time of appointment

2) A minimum of three years full-time PK-12 classroom teaching experience including reading/language arts

3) Thorough knowledge of the component view of literacy; demonstrated expertise in scientific, research-based literacy instruction implemented in developmentally appropriate ways in elementary, middle, and/or high school

4) Expertise with literacy coaching; expertise with literacy leadership within school literacy assessment and intervention programs

5) Expertise in diagnosis and intervention, including scientific research-based practices in decoding

6) Expertise utilizing technology in the instruction of reading and writing as well as progress monitoring and data management

7) Evidence of effective professional collaboration, application of knowledge, and leadership; superior communication skills

8) Commitment to working in an environment devoted to student learning, collegiality, professional development, diversity, civic responsibility, and respect for all people

9) Record of, or strong potential for, scholarly activity

Preferred qualifications:

1) University teaching experience; evidence of teaching effectiveness

2) Experience in urban school districts

3) Reading Certification – strongly preferred
