The Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a federal program that provides part-time employment opportunities for full-time undergraduate or graduate matriculated students.

Eligibility is based on need as determined by Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Employment opportunities on campus include jobs in the university library, laboratories, facility operations, health service, and various campus offices. Southern also places students in local, off-campus nonprofit agencies. Employment opportunities are numerous and can provide career-related experience. Students may work up to 20 hours a week while classes are in session, and 35 hours a week during holiday breaks and vacation periods though award amounts vary.  Students are paid bi-weekly at an hourly wage for work performed. Once a job is secured, students are required to complete three Federal Work Study forms for processing.  These can be found on Southern's One Stop Forms page.
