Aggregate Limits - cumulative amount a student may borrow for their education

  • Dependent undergraduate $31,000 (no more than $23,000 of the aggregate amount can be subsidized)
  • Independent undergraduate $57,500 (no more than $23,000 of the aggregate amount can be subsidized)
  • Graduate $138,500 (including loans for undergraduate study) No more than $65,500 of the aggregate amount can be subsidized.

Please Note

*Dependent undergraduate students who have a high expected family contribution (EFC) may not be eligible for the Subsidized Direct Loan.    Therefore, the student would be eligible for an Unsubsidized Direct Loan as a dependent freshmen for $5,500, sophomore for $6,500, junior and seniors for $7,500.

**Independent undergraduate and dependent undergraduate students with a PLUS denial that have a high expected family contribution (EFC) may not be eligible for the Subsidized Direct Loan.  Therefore, the student would be eligible for an Unsubsidized Direct Loan as an independent freshmen for $9,500, sophomore for $10,500, junior and seniors for $12,500.
