Southern Connecticut State University is responsible for maintaining a work environment free from harassment and discrimination. The university is further responsible for preventing and addressing complaints of conduct that rise to the level of unlawful harassment/discrimination based on state and federal laws. This includes, but is not limited to, harassing or discriminating behaviors based on race, color, religious creed, sex, national origin, age disability, and sexual orientation.
To meet our obligations, we offer training to employees and residential advisers in
several categories, such as sexual harassment prevention, diversity in the workplace,
and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Staff may register online for these training sessions as they become available.
Responsible Employee Training
Southern is providing employees with a new “responsible employee” training course. The course will provide a comprehensive overview of the important issues related to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. The course will also provide information and access to the University policies, reporting protocols, resources available on campus, and information on how to respond if you receive a report of an allegation of sexual misconduct.
All employees are required to complete the on-line training. The new training will be available at the beginning of the fall 2018 semester.

Diversity Awareness Training
This training will give employees the skills they need to promote awareness of and respect for diversity in the workplace. In this class, participants will learn:
- Information about the federal and state laws concerning discrimination and hate crimes
- Standards for working with and serving people from diverse populations
- Strategies for addressing differences that may arise in a diverse work environment
