The Cisco Guest Server allows all permanent employees to create temporary wireless network accounts for university visitors or guests. This service is intended for the wireless network where a sponsor logs into a website and requests temporary accounts for guests. Note that account sponsors must be permanent employees of Southern Connecticut State University.
Follow these simple steps to create a guest account:
- To create an account, simply log into http://guestaccess.scsu.southernct.edu with your Windows username and password. Note that this link only works on campus.
- If it is your first time using this service, you will be directed to the My Settings page first. Enter all relevant information then click Save.
- Click Create Guest Account, located on the left under the Create Accounts section.
- Fill in all the fields with the information related to your guest. NOTE: all fields listed are intended for guest information.
- Click Add User
- Click Email Account to send the account details to the guest.
The system will generate a username based on the guests first and last name. A password will be generated using a random set of characters. Guests are only allowed wireless Internet access. No other University computing resources will be accessible.
The guest accounts are good for up to 3 days. The accounts will be activated at the start of the visit and automatically deleted at the end of visit. If the password is forgotten or lost, please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
Long-Term Visit
If duration of the visit is longer than three days, please fill out the Guest Account Request Formfor each guest and submit the form to OIT Help Desk at least two weeks prior to the visit. Requests will not be processed without the following information:
- Name of the visitor
- Affiliation of the visitor
- Time and duration of the visit
- Purpose of the visit
- Name, email, and office phone extension of
the University sponsor. The sponsor must be a permanent employee of Southern Connecticut State University.
Once the accounts are created, the sponsor will be notified of the access procedures.
Sponsor Responsibilities
Account sponsors must be permanent employees at Southern Connecticut State University. Account sponsors are responsible for:
- Request, renew, or terminate sponsorship, providing all the required information.
- Respond promptly to notices about the accounts they sponsor.
- Provide account information to the person being sponsored.
- Take responsibility for appropriate use of the sponsored account by the person being sponsored.
Requests for a sponsored account for spouse, child, friend, relative, etc., for their personal use will not be honored except via Library. Sponsored accounts are intended to support working with a Southern department or Southern employee in support of Southern-related work.
