Social work promotes the personal and social development of people in their communities based on the values of social, economic, and environmental justice; civil and human rights; democracy; and full access to educational, social, economic, and political participation.
The Department of Social Work educates social workers as competent and compassionate agents of change who, guided by professional knowledge, skills, and values, are prepared to practice ethically and effectively with diverse individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities; to translate research into practice; and to provide leadership in the profession and in their communities.
Our social work programs will span your social work career.
The BSW program will prepare you for entry-level professional social work positions and for the MSW Advanced Standing program, where you will be able to complete your MSW degree in one additional calendar year.
The MSW program will prepare you for specialized social work positions in clinical practice or in community practice and qualify you for the State of Connecticut Master-Level Social Worker License (LMSW).
The DSW program will support your professional development from MSW practice to advanced clinical practice, university teaching, or leadership in agency and academic settings.
The BSW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
