Capstone Options

All Honors College students are asked to complete one capstone project that shows off the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their time at SCSU. Your capstone project should be a culmination of all that you have learned in the Honors College and be particular to your academic interests. See one of the three options below to learn more and start your capstone journey.

The Thesis Capstone option pairs Honors College students with SCSU faculty who share similar research interests and can provide knowledgeable and helpful guidance. Students choose their research topic and their faculty advisor. Students who are interested in this capstone are strongly encouraged to take HON 400. All thesis students take HON 494 and HON 495, which provide them with the opportunity to research their topic and write their findings. The thesis capstone is best for those who are interested in graduate or professional schools.

If you are interested in enrolling in HON 494 and starting your research project, fill out the following form.

Honors College students have many study-abroad options. While most faculty-led trips happen in the summer, some occur in the fall and spring semesters, or over winter break. Honors College students are required to take one course prior to traveling (HON 450) and one course upon returning (HON 488) to complete the capstone experience. Apply for study abroad funding through the Honors College.

Are you interested in working with a community partner and solving problems? Are you a budding entrepreneur or business major? If so, community service might be the way to celebrate your Honors College experience.

Students who enroll in the Community Engagement Capstone courses (HON 460 and 461) will work closely with a community partner to enhance their work. You pick your community outreach partner, so the entire experience is customizable to you and your academic/professional interests.
