Sue Zoellner-Cross, bassoonist, received her Bachelors of music from the Hartt School of Music, and her Masters degree from Yale. She is currently Assistant Principal bassoon with both the New Haven Symphony and Orchestra New England, along with being and avid freelancer in CT. She enjoys her many appearances at Mohegan Sun, Oakdale Theater, and other venues throughout the state in addition to her symphony jobs. Sue has appeared as a guest soloist with both the Albany Symphony, and the Hartt Symphony. She can be heard on recordings with the New Haven Symphony, Orchestra New England, and Harmonia V Quintet.
As an educator and administrator, Sue is the bassoon instructor of over 20 bassoonists yearly, and 10 ensembles where she also teaches at Neighborhood Music School, in New Haven. Her student’s successes range from winning Concerto Competitions, earning spots in All-State, and gaining admission to major conservatories including, Julliard, Curtis, Eastman and Manhattan school of Music. In addition she is as an administrator at Neighborhood Music School, head of the wind, brass, and percussion departments, and the director of 2 chamber music summer programs. She serves on the Education Committee of the New Haven Symphony, and feels education is one of the most important part of any symphony’s work in the community.
