The Samuel A. Burrell Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to a dedicated Southern student athlete. Samuel A. Burrell Jr., graduated from Southern in 1970. Mr. Burrell dedicated his life to his student athletes in several roles, including head coach for the American Legion Post 47, Yale’s intercollegiate football league and head baseball coach for Yale. His son, Scott, currently resides as Southern’s head Men’s Basketball coach.
