New Student Orientation: Fall 2014

Orientation is designed to provide new students with the information they will need to have a successful first year at Southern. First-time college students, freshmen, who will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the Fall of 2014 must attend a two-day orientation session, which will be held in May and June of 2014, and New Student Welcome Weekend.

Orientation for First-Year Students

New Student Orientation is mandatory -- First-time college students, freshmen, who will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the Fall of 2014 must attend one of the following five New Student Orientation sessions which will be held in May and June as well as New Student Welcome Weekend.

Students should plan on arriving to campus by 8am on the first day of their session. Mandatory programs will conclude by 9pm. Students are strongly encouraged to stay overnight with accommodations being provided in one of Southern's Residence Halls. Programs on the 2nd day of each session will begin at 8am and conclude at 5pm. 

Session I        Thursday, May 29th - Friday, May 30th

Session II       Tuesday, June 3rd - Wednesday, June 4th

Session III     Tuesday, June 10th - Wednesday, June 11th

Session IV      Wednesday , June 18th - Thursday, June 19th

Session V         Tuesday, June 24th - Wednesday, June 25th

Orientation for Transfer Students

Transfer Student Orientation is the place where your journey begins at Southern. Participation in this one-day program is mandatory and is designed to ease your transition and give you the information you need to succeed at Southern. During Orientation you will be matched with an Orientation Ambassador and a small group of fellow transfer students. You will learn about resources for student success, make connections with other transfer students, be advised and register for classes as well as take a tour. Space in each session is limited and available on a "first come, first serve" basis. We strongly recommend that you sign up as soon as you can commit to a specific date.

We offer two types of Orientation:

1. A full-day Orientation beginning at 9:00 a.m. with programs scheduled until 4:30 p.m.

2. A Non-traditional Orientation reserved for students that are 26 years of age or older or students with life circumstances (family obligations, full-time employment, etc...) that prevent you from attending a full session. These will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on four Mondays throughout the summer and will be limited in scope. 

We offer five sessions which include a Parent/Family Orientation Program. If you have a parent or family member that would like to attend a Parent and Family Orientation Program, please select a session with "Parent/Family Orientation offered" in parentheses.

Session A: Friday, May 2 (8:00 - 5:00)
Session B: Monday, May 19 (5:00 - 8:00, non-traditional students)
Session C: Thursday, May 29 (8:00 - 5:00 Parent/Family Orientation offered)
Session D: Tuesday, June 3rd (8:00 - 5:00 Parent/Family Orientation offered)
Session E: Tuesday, June 10 (8:00 - 5:00 Parent/Family Orientation offered)
Session F: Monday, June 16 (5:00 - 8:00, non-traditional students)
Session G: Wednesday, June 18 (8:00 - 5:00 Parent/Family Orientation offered)
Session H: Tuesday, June 24 (8:00 - 5:00 Parent/Family Orientation offered)
Session I: Tuesday, July 15 (8:00 - 5:00)
Session J: Monday, July 21 (5:00 - 8:00, non-traditional students)
Session L: Tuesday, August 5 (8:00 - 5:00)
Session M: Monday, August 18 (8:00 - 5:00)
Session N: Monday, August 18 (5:00 - 8:00, non-traditional students)
Session X: Friday, August 22 (8:00 - 5:00)
