New Owl Weekend 2017

Friday, August 25th

If you are living on campus for the Fall 2017 semester you will be moving into your assigned Residence Halls at the time you've selected.

Saturday, August 26th, Sunday, August 27th and Monday, August 28th

These are required orientation days for all first-year students – All students will be expected to return to campus on Saturday, August 26th (8:30am-4pm) and Monday, August 28th (9am- 3pm) for New Owl Weekend. These MANDATORY days will prepare you to enter the semester successfully. Programs, workshops, and activities are designed to further educate new students on critical topics.

Sunday, August 27th will be a fun-filled day in which students will relax and socialize with their new classmates. While Sunday is not required, we strongly encourage all first-year students to participate.

Schedule Overview

Friday, August 25th
For Students Living On Campus in the Fall 2017
New Student Move-In
If you are living on campus for the Fall 2017 semester you will be moving into your assigned Residence Halls at the time you've selected.

Saturday, August 26th
Required day for all first-year students
Please be sure to bring your Fall 2017 class schedule and your Hoot Loot Student ID.

8:30am to 4:00pm
During the day you will attend a keynote session that explores diversity, social justice and several other topics, participate in programs regarding your financial future and learn more about being part of the Southern community. The first program on August 26th begins at 8:30am. You will be meeting with your Learning Community Group at this time. You should plan on arriving in the Academic Quad in front of Buley Library by 8:15am.

Arrival and Parking
If you are commuting to New Owl Weekend please park in the Wintergreen Parking Garage located on Wintergreen Avenue.

4:30pm to 10:00pm
While this is not a required portion of the day, we strongly encourage you to stay and get to know your new classmates.

Sunday, August 27th
10am- 10pm
This is not a required day. Students are encouraged to participate!
You are invited to participate in a fun day of activities. More information to come!

Monday, August 28th
Required day for all first-year students
8:30am- 3:00pm
The first program on August 28th begins with a 9:00am with your Learning Community. Throughout the day, you will have opportunities to meet new people and make new friends, attend important programs designed to help you be successful in all aspects of college life and further explore Southern's campus and opportunities.

Tuesday, August 29th
The Big Day! The first day of classes!
