New Owl Weekend 2018
New Owl Weekend will take place from Saturday, August 25th through Monday, August 27th. All first-year students will be required to attend New Owl Weekend. Please note that all items with an asterisk* are required.
How Students Find Their Group:
First-Year Students- Visit https://stuaff.southernct.edu/now/form.php and simply enter your student ID number which can be found on your Hoot Loot card. You will ﬁnd the name of your Peer Leader and the classroom where you will begin your day. If you are a ﬁrst-year student and you have any diﬃculty or feel that your information is incorrect, please contact our office at (203) 392-5189.
Saturday, August 25th
*9am- 4pm,New Student/Resident Move-In

*3:30pm- 5:30pm,New Owl Weekend Commuter Kick-Off!
All commuters will check in at the Adanti STudent Center Ballroom by 3:30pm. The program will kick-off with an engaging keynote presentation followed by Commuter Community Meetings!
*4pm- 5:30pm,Resident Student Hall Meetings
Resident students will attend community meetings in their Residence Hall.
5:00pm- 9:00pm,Dinner and Street Festival
Enjoy performances, food trucks, special gifts, and so much more on your first night!
Sunday, August 26th
8:30AM,Resident Student Breakfast, Connecticut Hall
Connecticut Hall is open for resident students during its normally scheduled hours.
*8:15AM- 8:30AM,Find Your Learning Community
You will be meeting with your Fall Learning Community! We will help you find the room where your NOW classroom will be located during New Owl Weekend.
*8:30AM- 9:30AM, Learning Community Meetings, NOW Classrooms
Each first year student has been placed in a Learning Community this Fall, whether it is an Inquiry or Honors College Community. This will be your first meeting with your Learning Community. You will learn more about New Owl Weekend and have an opportunity to get to know each other!
*9:30AM- 11:00AM,Opening Welcome and Keynote, Lyman Center
We are excited to welcome all new Owls! Following greetings from students, faculty and staff, we have a dynamic presentation.
Lessons on Social Justice: An Interactive Experience Creating Change
Eva Vega for an interactive keynote experience that will engage students and get you talking about different topics related to diversity and social justice.
*11:15AM- 3:00PMThe Owl Community Programs, Learning Community Meetings and Lunch
During this time, students will attend two interactive and informative programs on how to be successful in your first semester and beyond. Additionally, students will meet with their Peer Leaders to make meaning of the programs and to further prepare as well as enjoy lunch!

Monday, August 27th

Start your day by connecting with your Learning Community.
*9:30am- 10:30am, INQ Class Meeting, New Owl Weekend Rooms
Meet your INQ Professor and learn more about your INQ Class!
*11:00am- 12:00pm, New Student Convocation, Lyman Center
This is a long-standing Southern tradition. This is the formal ceremony of induction to the university for all new students.
*12pm- 1:30pm, New Student Barbecue, Academic Quad
Enjoy music and a festive barbecue as you celebrate the beginning of a new year!
*1:30pm- 2:00pm, Class Picture,Academic Quad
This is always a memorable experience as the entire Class of 2022 takes their first class picture!

Important Information about New Owl Weekend
Attendance Expectations For First-Year Students:
Saturday, August 25th from 3:30pm- 6:00pm- all programs required
Sunday, August 26th from 8:30am until 4:15pm- all programs required
Monday, August 27th from 8:30am- 3:00pm- all programs required
Attendance is not mandatory for Transfer Students.
Through New Owl Weekend, each group has been assigned a Peer Leader. These experienced student leaders serve as Orientation Ambassadors, Peer Mentors or Resident Advisers and will be resources to you during New Owl Weekend and beyond. Be sure to ask lots of questions!
If you need any assistance during New Owl Weekend, please visit the New Owl Weekend Information Tent in front of Buley Library or call the New Student and Sophomore Programs Office at (203) 392-5189 or The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development at (203) 392-5782 between 8:30am- 4:30pm. After hours, please see a NOW staff member at our evening activities.

First-Year Students- On August 23rd, we will post a website which will students to simply enter your student ID number which can be found on your Hoot Loot card. You will find the name of your Peer Leader and the classroom you will go to after the opening program in the Lyman Center. If you are a first-year student and you have any difficulty or feel that your information is incorrect, please see a N.O.W. Peer Leader or Staff member for assistance.
Barnes and Noble New Student VIP Night:
Saturday, August 25th, 4pm- 6pm, University Bookstore, Adanti Student Center Street Level
Barnes and Noble is sponsoring a special VIP Night for new students which will include special discounts, surprises and prizes!
