Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) invites applications for the Head Coach of Women’s Gymnastics. The Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach provides strategic leadership for a competitive gymnastics program within a university environment that promotes student engagement, athletic achievement, academic success, overall well-being, and persistence to graduation.

SCSU Athletics and Recreation
The SCSU Department of Athletics and Recreation is a NCAA Division II program, and a member of the Northeast-10 Conference and the Gymnastics East Conference. Consisting of 19 athletics teams, SCSU’s outstanding program continually ranks among the top NCAA Division II programs in the nation and boasts a long record of dominance in the Northeast for both team and individual championships. The Owls rank among the top 10 nationally with over 82 individual titles and 10 team championships. SCSU had NCAA Championship representation in over nine sports in 2023- 24 and also ranked among the top half of all Division II programs in the Learfield Sports Cup for the 20th straight year.
Southern Gymnastics
The Southern Connecticut State University Women's Gymnastics team competes in the elite Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) and is a proud member of USA Gymnastics. The 2024 season was nothing short of phenomenal, with a USAG record of 16 individual competitors advancing to the Collegiate National Championships and a program-best fourth-place finish at the GEC Championships.
With four athletes earning spots on the All-GEC teams and an astounding 21 named GEC Scholar-Athletes, our commitment to excellence in athletics and academics is unparalleled. Currently our Women’s Gymnastics team leads all women's sports with a team GPA of 3.66. Over the last five seasons, SCSU has rewritten the record books, setting new standards in every individual and team category, including the program's first-ever perfect 10 score. Notably, we celebrated our third CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history in 2023, a testament to our holistic approach to student-athlete development.
The Position
The Head Coach of Gymnastics has an amazing opportunity to build upon decades of excellence with SCSU Gymnastics. Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Head Coach of Gymnastics provides vision and leadership for all aspects of the SCSU gymnastics program, with a primary focus on developing a high-quality student-athlete experience. Consistent with the values of NCAA Division II, the head coach provides a competitive athletic experience while supporting the academic success and overall wellbeing of student-athletes. Responsibilities also include recruiting, training, fiscal oversight, administrative duties, alumni engagement, fundraising, and community engagement activities. Working collaboratively with the Athletics and Recreation team, campus colleagues, alumni and other stakeholders, the head coach will maximize visibility for the athletics program to develop university spirit and pride.
This position is a full-time, 10-month contractual position.
Position Requirements
Master’s degree preferred and eight (8) years of appropriate professional level experience are required. The head coach must demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to following the letter and spirit of NCAA, Gymnastics East Conference and University rules and regulations. The head coach must exhibit an ability to effectively work with a diverse population of student-athletes and coaches in a cultural climate that celebrates diversity. The successful candidate will be required to complete the NCAA certification exam. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
