The Nutmeg State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) will bring together the four regional public comprehensive universities in the State of Connecticut with the primary goal of increasing the number of STEM graduates from underrepresented minorities (African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, Alaskan Natives, and Native Pacific Islanders).

- Two-week Residential Summer Bridge Program (tentative dates August 10-21, 2025)
- First-year learning community
- First-year seminar series
- Peer mentors and faculty research mentors
- Project-based learning
- Two-week Research Summer Institute (prior to second year enrollment)

Eligibility Criteria
- Incoming fall 2025 first-year students enrolled full-time at Southern in one of the STEM disciplines (as defined by the National Science Foundation): Biology (excluding pre-med), Chemistry (excluding pre-health), Coastal and Marine Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Earth Science, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Physics, Psychology (B.S. majors)
- Students must be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the USA
Anyone is welcome to apply to the program; however, we will be evaluating applications based on meeting the NSF’s overall goal of the program, which “is to assist universities and colleges in diversifying the nation's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to populations historically underrepresented in these disciplines: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.
