The NOYCE Scholarship

Approximate Value: full tuition and fees for 2 years or 12,500 a year for up to 2 years

The NOYCE Scholarship is intended to provide 2 years of full tuition and fees to encourage more STEM educators among high-needs districts in Connecticut. Applicants must be Math or Science 7-12 majors. Visit the scholarship webpage (https://www.southernct.edu/owlsteach) for more information.

Carol Ann Shea Scholarship

Undergraduate and graduates: Up to $2500.00 per year

The scholarships are being made possible through an endowed multi-million dollar gift from the late Carol Ann Shea, an alumna who served as an SCSU faculty member for 32 years.

Minority Teacher Incentive Grant

Approximate Value: $2,500.00

Nominees must be full-time juniors or seniors enrolled in an undergraduate teacher preparation program. 

Alma Exley Scholarship Program

Approximate Value: $5,000.00

The scholarship program is intended to support and encourage persons of color in Connecticut who are committed to a career in public school teaching.

Edith Voccala Baldyga Scholarship

Approximate Value: $425.00

The Edith Voccala Baldyga Scholarship is designed to provide assistance to future teachers in financial need. Candidates are nominated and approved by College of Education faculty. The scholarship is renewable based on available funds and maintaining good academic standards.

The Dr. L Barbieri and Family Scholarship

Approximate Value: $850.00

The Dr. L Barbieri and Family Scholarship is a needs based scholarship available to any College of Education student with an outstanding academic record. The scholarship is renewable each year. Priority is given to State of Connecticut residents.

Connecticut Early Childhood Education Council Annual Scholarship

Approximate Value: $950.00

The Connecticut Early Childhood Education Council Annual Scholarship is merit scholarship awarded to a graduate student in the early childhood education program. The candidate must have a 3.2 GPA, submit two letters of recommendation, and write an essay. This will detail the candidate’s personal history, value and pertinent experience. Applicants will be judged using three criteria: teaching skills, scholarship and sensitivity to young children.

D’Amato Endowed Scholarship Fund

Approximate Value: $800.00

The D'Amato Endowed Scholarship is a merit based award. Candidates must have a GPA of 3.2 and a record of service to the community.

Daniels DeFance Family Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Value: $800.00

The Daniels DeFance Family Endowed Scholarship is a needs based scholarship open to commuters from West Haven, CT. The annual award is available to a student with a high academic record and demonstrated financial need.

Geraldine Frankel Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Value: $1,000.00

The Geraldine Frankel Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a special education certification student who demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the life opportunities of individuals with special needs. Candidates must have a strong academic record. Preference will be given to students in secondary education.

Goodwin Endowment Scholarship

Approximate Value: $2,900.00

The Goodwin Endowment Scholarship is awarded each year to an elementary education major. Recipients are chosen by the College of Education.

The Lindsay Jeppesen Annual Scholarship Fund

Alice and Philip Palm established the Lindsay Jeppesen Annual Scholarship to honor both their granddaughter, a student with special needs, and the teachers who inspired Lindsay. The award is chosen by the Dean of the College of Education and given to an undergraduate student seeking a special education degree.

Pauline Katz Scholarship

he Pauline Katz Scholarship is a needs based award for undergraduate students enrolled in elementary education who show a strong commitment to public schools. Students must have a strong academic record and are chosen by the College of Education.

Kim Laliberti Scholarship

The Kim Laliberti Scholarship is awarded to a special education. Preference will be given to candidates also major also majoring in History or English. The candidate must be an outstanding academic student.

The Landino Family Scholarship

Approximate Value: $1,800.00

Dr. Rita Landino has established a scholarship in honor of her family and in recognition of her 35 years teaching at Southern Connecticut State University. The award is open to graduate or undergraduate students studying in the field of secondary English education.

Nancy Laine Marano Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Value: $2,500.00

The Nancy Laine Marano Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Nancy Laine Marano, Professor of Education at Southern Connecticut State University. Dr. Marano was a dear friend , valued colleague and trusted student advisor. She valued elementary education and treasured language arts. Students in their junior and senior years, with a GPA of 3.2 or higher, may apply to the merit based award by submitting an essay explaining why they deserve the scholarship.

Morgan-Conquest Scholarship Fund

Approximate Value: $12,000.00

The Morgan-Conquest Scholarship Fund is designed to provide assistance to future teachers with preference given to minority students. Candidates are nominated and approved by College of Education faculty. The scholarship is renewable based on available funds and maintaining good academic standards.

Nancy B. Palmieri Memorial Scholarship

Approximate Value: $1,700.00

The Nancy B. Palmieri Memorial Scholarship was established to support undergraduate students in the College of Education. To be eligible, applicants must be a resident of the state of Connecticut. Students must also demonstrate academic achievement.

Anne Marie Murphy Scholarship

Approximate Value: $1,000.00

Anne Marie Murphy, 52, was a 14-year resident of Sandy Hook, CT, formerly of Katonah NY, who died Friday, December 14,2012 protecting the children in her care during the tragic shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. She will be remembered for her love of the arts, walks in the outdoors and most importantly, her family. The scholarship established by her devoted husband Michael Murphy and their children Kelly, Colleen, Paige and Thomas, is a tribute to Anne Marie McGowan Murphy's memory, her dedication to her students, her bravery in the face of mortal danger and the selflessness she exhibited in protecting the children in her care. The award is given to a special education graduate student.

Beatrice H. Rockwell Scholarship

Approximate Value: $2,500.00

The goal of the Beatrice H. Rockwell Scholarship is to provide tuition assistance to students seeking high school certification. Recipient must be in his or her junior or senior year at university and accepted into the College of Education. The student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average for the preceding two years.

Sage Family Library Science Scholarship

The Sage Family Scholarship is available for student enrolled full time in the College of Education, Department of Information and Library Sciences at the University, or the student must be a full time (9 or more credits) or half time (6 credits) graduate student enrolled in the Master of Library Science program. The scholarship is a merit and need based award.

Dr. Michael F. Tobin Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Value: $1,500.00

The Michael F. Tobin Endowed Scholarship is in honor of Michael F. Tobin, a man who devoted his adult life to teaching and field education. In four decades, he worked as a teacher, an administrator and eventually a tenured professor at Southern Connecticut State University. This merit based scholarship is available to full time or part time students and declared Education Major.

Rebecca Ward '69 Scholarship

This merit based scholarship, named in honor of Rebecca Ward, is available to full time students who are declared Secondary Education Major.

John H. Williamson Endowed Scholarship

Approximate Value: $1,400.00

The John H. Williamson Endowed Scholarship was established to support undergraduate students in the College of Education. To be eligible candidates must be enrolled full time and declared Special Education Major.
