Noncredit Training
SCSU OWLL is proud to partner with Skills21 at EdAdvance for an AI in K-12 Education micro-credential. The training will be facilitated by Matt Mervis and Dr. Liz Radday from EdAdvance, hosts of the popular podcast, ChatEDU.
This six-week training is designed to be self-paced with a focus on practical, hands-on activities. It covers five key modules that will guide you in practicing the use of generative AI in various educational contexts.
The microcredential is focused around five essential modules. Each module includes video instruction and activities, offering actionable strategies for educators: Foundations, Prompting Pros, Shifting Assessment, Future Focus, and Presentations.
To further support your learning, you have access to three optional synchronous Zoom meetings.

The Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning at SCSU was established in 2021 to support educational innovation through research, professional development, policy work, and systemic reform initiatives through collaborations both within and outside of the university. Among the Center's flagship programs is the Colloquium Series, first presented in 2021. We work collaboratively to develop the program, inviting experts in their fields from outside the university to address current topics in education innovation. The Institute for Real World Education and Curriculum Advancement (IRWECA) is a partnership between the Office of Research and Innovation at SCSU and the Connecticut State Department of Education. The goals are: 1) increase educator awareness of academic and career opportunities in STEM and Manufacturing AND 2) support educators’ development and implementation of new teaching and learning aligned with the needs of those companies IRWECA has 2 components: 1) summer industry experience AND 2) supports for education teams during the academic year

The Bilingual Extension program is a 12-credit certificate for individuals who are certified to teach and wish to teach English Language Learners (ELLs) in a bilingual setting.
Free Professional Development
SCSU’s Center of Excellence on Autism Spectrum Disorders serves and supports school-based personnel educating children and youth with an autism spectrum disorder living in Connecticut and beyond. The Center offers a variety of lectures and events throughout the year:
Successful Strategies for Teaching Students with Autism
This 20-part professional development video series covers a wide array of topics related to teaching students with autism. These include the most relevant evidence-based practices along with immediately applicable information for parents, caregivers, teachers, and school staff.
Routine Traffic Stop Practice
Participants will learn how to effectively utilize the Blue Envelope when stopped by a police officer. The Blue Envelope is a Connecticut DMV resource that provides a blue-colored envelope with written instructions to assist a motorist with autism spectrum disorder navigate a traffic stop. The envelope also alerts police officers that the individual has autism so that enhanced communication can be reached between the two. You can read more at the DMV Website here.
The Science of Autism
Monthly discussions on the latest scientific developments and research in the field of autism spectrum disorders. All events are held virtually on Zoom on Friday mornings at 9 am and consist of a 45-minute presentation followed by 15 minutes of questions and answers. These events are free but require advanced registration to receive the Zoom meeting link. Most presentations are recorded and then posted after the event.
