center for adaptive technology
The Center for Adaptive Technology is a division of the Academic Technologies Department of the Office of Academic Affairs at Southern Connecticut State University. It was established in 1989 through a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University System.
The Center for Adaptive Technology promotes the benefits of Universal Design for Learning by providing technology and support to all members of the Southern Connecticut State University community, as well as to the community at large. Recognizing the fact that not all students learn the same way, the Center provides multiple approaches to learning and expression through a variety of technology solutions.
Structure of the Center for Adaptive Technology
The Center for Adaptive Technology is comprised of two labs that serve SCSU students:
- The Adaptive Technology Lab, located in Engleman Hall Room B017, serves SCSU students with disabilities. Prior to receiving services from the Center students have to register with the SCSU Disability Resource Center in Engleman C106.
- The Davis Educational Technology Resource Lab, located in Davis Hall Room 118, serves SCSU students in education programs.
Additionally, the Center for Adaptive Technology provides assistive technology support to members of the community at large. The Center provides assistive technology assessments, trainings and presentations in assistive technology and assistive technology consultations to persons with disabilities as well as Connecticut K-12 schools.
Through a grant from the CT Tech Act Project the Center runs a Technology Loan Program that provides laptops and iPads with assistive technology to Connecticut K-12 schools.
Throughout each semester, the Center for Adaptive Technology staff will be conducting workshops for SCSU students on the use of various educational technology tools. For a schedule of workshops, please check our Technology Workshops page!
