The Big Event
The Big Event is a campus-wide service initiative, where the Southern Connecticut State University comes together to support the New Haven and surrounding communities. The premise of The Big Event is that one day a year, Southern students join together to volunteer in the local community. This year, on Saturday, April 25th, 2015, hundreds of students will volunteer for local organizations, agencies, and other locations in need of assistance.
Community Partners - To register a work site project, please download this form, complete it, and email it to Melissa Trinks, Graduate Intern in the Office of Student Life, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students - To register your club/organization, class. athletic team or as an individual, please visit Collegiate Link, click on The Big Event logo, and complete the registration form. You will be asked to indicate whether you are registering with a group or as an individual during the registration process. Please indicate which group you are registering to participate with at that time. Every person volunteering must register on Collegiate Link.
Registration will be open from March 2nd to April 19th.
Big Event Schedule
8:45-9:45am - Student Check-In and Registration in the Residence Life Quad. Students will check-in and Group Leaders will receive their folders containing site information and directions. No breakfast will be served this year, so students are asked to bring their breakfast with them to Check-In.
9:45am - Students will depart for their work sites.
10:00am to 2:00pm - Students will volunteer at their site in the New Haven/Hamden community.
2:00pm - Students will leave their volunteer work site and head back to campus.
2:15pm - Welcome Back Celebration in the Residence Life Quad. As students return to campus, they are invited to take part in the Welcome Back Celebration. Lunch and entertainment will be provided, as we celebrate the spirit of community service and civic engagement!
