Because history matters...
The Social Welfare History Group (SWHG) was formed in 1956 by social workers and historians concerned with preserving and examining the history of social welfare and social work. Its stated purpose was to promote research and educational activities in social welfare history. Since this time, the SWHG has encouraged the teaching of history and the value of doing historical research on social work and social welfare through presentations at conferences, publication of bibliographies and articles and dissertations. It holds its annual meeting each year at the Council of Social Work Education’s Annual Program Meeting (APM). More about the Social Welfare History Group.
