Dr. Jeffrey Jacobson has over 30 years of experience in research, engineering, and applications in VR, AR, and XR technology for training and education. Dr. Jacobson was one of the first researchers to use game technology for VR, conduct empirical studies on education with VR, and use VR in museums and educational theaters. Six years ago, he joined their simulation-based training and systems engineering group, Immersive Design Systems, and founded their XR service line. The service provides customized VR and AR training to meet hospital staff's training and certification within an organization where time is precious, and safety is paramount.

Diverse male and female doctors using VR headsets

Southern Connecticut State University’s Office of Workforce and Lifelong Learning (OWLL) is your partner for targeted, short-term certificate programs that provide specific skills and knowledge, allowing individuals to quickly upskill or reskill to meet the changing requirements of today's world.

This workshop is the kick-off for a series of training programs on the topic of XR to help you and your team understand how to select, deploy, and create XR content that supports your business activity.

Workshops and Schedule

Workshops will be repeated twice so all attendees can attend two workshops.

Workshop 1: Building XR training with 360 photos/video. Affordable 360 cameras and easy-to-learn software provide an accessible workflow to create custom XR training content.  In this workshop, discover how 360 immersive content is being used at Boston Children’s Hospital. Facilitated by Dr. Jeffrey Jacobson.

Workshop 2: Equipment Manuals in XR. Strategies for releasing staff from paper manuals using XR technologies. Free up trainer time and provide trainees with more accessible and flexible training materials. Facilitated by Ted Dinsmore, SphereGen and David Pearlstone, DICOM Director.

Workshop 3: Digital Twins for training. Hands-on/heads-in experience using the Meta Quest headset. Experience how virtual copies of real-world spaces -- such as a surgery operating room -- can provide safe, cost-effective, and repeatable training experiences. Dror Goldberg, Foretell Reality
