Where can a Southern student study abroad? Just about anywhere, really. We have 30 partnerships with distinguished institutions in countries all over the world, including France, China, Greece, Germany, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. You can also spend a summer, winter recess, or spring recess in Belize, Guatemala, Iceland, Italy, or Peru, among other countries. Our Office of International Education is devoted to helping you become a global citizen.
Combining extensive academic and research credentials with career experience, our faculty members bring vast knowledge and real-world insight into the classroom. They're actively engaged in scholarship and creative activity, as well as the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research. Our faculty provide individual advising and personal attention and are committed to your academic and professional success.
The hallmark of a Southern education is hands-on learning, and Southern students have many options for internships, field work, and other experiences beyond the classroom. From the Bio-Path initiative in bioscience education; to a social work internship at a social service organization; to student teaching; to a field school for anthropologists and social scientists; to a role with Elm Shakespeare Company, Southern's theater company in residence -- you’ll find the right internship or off-campus experience to broaden your skills and prepare you for your future.
If you’re eager to achieve your career goals quickly, you can take advantage of one of our many Accelerated Pathways Programs. Whether you’re interested in chemistry, computer science, athletic training, therapeutic recreation, nursing, or an MBA, we can help you complete your coursework and other requirements on a shortened timeline, so you can get out into the workforce and dive into your profession.
Southern Connecticut State University offers a variety of online programs that allow students to earn their degree on their own schedule. Our online programs are designed for working adults and other busy students who need the flexibility to study around their professional and personal commitments. Whether you want to complete your degree, advance your career, or simply learn something new, our online programs can help you reach your goals.
The academic heart of campus, Hilton C. Buley Library maintains over 100 databases and electronic collections and houses over half a million items, including books, serials, microforms, maps, government documents, rare books, video media, and more. The library is also home to two computer labs, the Learning Resources Center, a library instruction classroom, a Starbucks cafe, and quiet rooms for individual or group study.
The Honors College is a four-year program designed for the academically superior student. Courses are interdisciplinary, team-taught by professors from different departments, and classes are small, each limited to an enrollment of 20 students. Honors students do much writing and receive close, individualized feedback on their papers and creative work. Faculty advisement continues throughout the Honors student's university career, and a bond among our students and faculty fosters individual achievement and promotes group camaraderie.
