Compensation For Student Employment
Student Employment Hours and Wages information can be found here.
Compensation for Student Employment
-
Wages: All student employment jobs at SCSU start at Connecticut's minimum wage, which may vary year to year. Raises are not guaranteed. For more detailed information, refer to the SCSU Student Compensation Structure.
-
Payment Schedule: Students are paid bi-weekly through SCSU Payroll. Late submission and approval of timecards may cause processing delays for the next payroll cycle. Students can opt for direct deposit for faster payroll processing.
-
Sick Leave: Under Connecticut State law, student employees qualify for Paid Sick Leave (PSL). Students accrue one (1) hour of paid sick time for every thirty (30) hours worked. As part-time employees, student workers do not receive vacation pay or other benefits.

Prioritize Your Academics
At SCSU, we believe that being a student comes first. Students can work up to 20 hours per week for all student jobs during the academic year. However, there is no limit to the number of student jobs you can have. It’s your responsibility to ensure you don’t exceed 20 hours weekly.
If you're finding it difficult to balance academics and work, it's important to communicate with your supervisor to adjust your schedule or reduce your hours as needed. Prioritizing your education is key.
Time Management Resources
Use our Time Management Worksheet to assess if you have enough room in your schedule for student employment. Working while studying isn’t the right choice for everyone, so be sure to evaluate your personal commitments.
Student Leadership Institute (SLI)
The Student Leadership Institute (SLI) offers a series of interactive workshops designed to help students develop and refine their personal leadership skills. This initiative is open to all students at SCSU. You can choose to participate in a series of sessions and earn a certificate, or attend any individual session of your choice. To learn more about SLI, visit the SCSU Student Leadership Institute page.
