What is it?
The Owl Flight to Excellence Mentorship Program is a four-year commitment that starts in your first year at Southern. This means that you'll be part of the program throughout your entire undergraduate journey, receiving support and guidance to help you succeed academically, professionally, and personally.
In your first year, we’ll help you:
- Make friends
- Find your way around campus
- Learn about all the available resources
- Build confidence
- Learn daily life skills and academic skills
In your second, third, and fourth years of the program, you’ll:
- Building stronger connections with your major
- Get ready for a career
- Develop connections in the local community
- Serve as a mentor to new first-year students (starting in your junior year)
What do I have to do?
You’ll spend most of your time with your mentor in the first year. Your mentor will:
- Check in with you at least once a week.
- Attend a program or event with you once a month (maybe have lunch or dinner and attend an athletic event together).
- Guide you through monthly workshops designed to help you succeed in your first year.
How do I benefit?
This program aims to help you feel more comfortable and confident, learn new skills, make new friends, and gain experiences that will boost your success after graduation. It's not just about getting through college; it's about growing and thriving. Plus, you’ll earn a $500 scholarship at the end of each semester, rewarding your hard work and dedication!
